Last week Elliot and Lyles were in Bermuda meeting with a number of organizations regarding possible opportunities for The Mariners' to be involved with the 2017 America's Cup. In addition to meetings with the National Museum of Bermuda, the Masterworks Museum of Art, and the Bermuda Tourism Authority, one of the members of the America's Cup Bermuda organizing authority took them on a Behind-the-Scenes tour throughout Oracle TeamUSA's base. They are currently preparing a new prototype AC45 catamaran for testing; converting it from tiller steering to a wheel

On the other side of the "boat shed" is the huge carbon-fiber rigid wing main sail. All told there are 20,000 data points of information coming off the boat every ½ second - in real time going to computer's in their IT area ashore! (photo below)

They also had a meeting with officials at the Royal Bermuda YC, not only regarding America's Cup projects, but sailing exhibits and programs to consider beyond 2017. Finally, they met with the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. Although it is primarily focused on the 300+ shipwrecks and underwater life around the island, they too are interested in working on an America's Cup exhibit with the Museum that they hope to open this Fall.
